Spring/Summer Series: Festive Yellow

To my dearest Bethel,

I think of you every time I hear this song:

Santa baby, slip a sable under the tree, for me

I've been an awful good girl
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Finally we did it! Beth and I have been postponing the photo shoot since July and now we finally did it! You know what, it was certainly God who decides on our steps. I was struggling to generates ideas for Beth’s yellow theme photo shoot. But as soon as we decided on the date before Christmas, bang! God told me: do a festive theme!

I first met Beth at “Discover You” course ran by our church in May. When it’s my turn to introduce myself, I said:” I know what my gift is but I would like to know how can I use it for God’s will.” Then I saw an African girl nodded her head, as if she was the only one who listened to me. Around that time, I had a little wish in my heart – I wish I can shoot African models.

Two months later I met Beth again at a church meeting. She saw me crying behind the crowd and she offered to pray for me. She said something to me, something simple but meant a lot to me, it helps me to grow and to gain confident. Beth, although you have forgiven what you've said, but you are right, I am the one who need to remember it and I am so thankful God sent you to talk to me. After that meeting, Beth agreed to be my model! Yes she was my first African model!

The day of our photo shoot was our first time hanging out, first time together but it was 12 hours in total! Thank you so much for your time! The time I spent with Beth answered why Pastor Sam once said:”There is no other woman like Beth!” Yes I totally agreed with that. She is a very attractive woman. The attractiveness comes from her confidence, her big lips and, trust me, no one would not love her laughs.  She is also full of wisdom, knowledge and she knows what she wants, on top of that, she is a woman of God. Subsequently, this wonderful woman also agreed to be one of my bridesmaids! Wohooo!!!

Just like any other Aussie/Kiwi, she was afraid if there’s any snake in the forest. Haha! Snake in the forest was something me and May would never think about.

Thank God, the photo shoot was smooth, so much so that we managed to came home earlier than what we scheduled.

May, the sparkling eye lashes you put on for Beth stole the show! Stephani, thank you for helping me to sew the knee length yellow dress. Beth, thank you for agreeing to be a X'mas tree! Well done girls! Thank you so much for doing this with me! Merry Christmas XOXO

Spring Series: Gold

Dear Nicole,

Last year after I came back from a two months break in Malaysia, Gary and Gloria told me there's a new member called Nicole in our Connect Group. They were chatting about how stylish she is, but deep inside my heart, I thought who could be more stylish than me? I saw Nicole sitting on the couch reading a fashion magazine, wearing a furry white vest and a peach color top, matched with a triangle shape necklace. I thought: Oh well she is quite stylish... She said hi to Gary, and turned back to read her magazine, I didn't have the chance to introduce myself and I thought: oh this Nicole is quite proud... There's when the stereotype toward her began.

Half a year later I visited to Olivia's Connect Group, Nicole was wearing a long furry coat and she gave me a big smile! During prayer time, Nicole offered to pray for everyone and she started with me. She touched my shoulder and prayed in her heart. I closed my eyes and felt the goose bumps, suddenly I heart God told me:" Because you don't trust me." Oh I started to cry! That's the first time I heard God so clearly and I was actually having a spiritual warfare.

To my surprise, Nicole came to talk to me:" Hey beautiful, I read your blog and I love what you are doing." We had fun chatting and I love her! I love her genuine personalities, her caring heart, and her Kiwi accent.

We were so excited about the photo shoot. Nicole came to my house in a black furry vest and a huge black vintage suitcase, how stylish! Thanks to Nicole who for doing a great job in the cold weather, and thank God there was no snake in the bush haha!

I told Nicole about my stereotype the first time I saw her, and she said:" Oh no!! I am so sorry I made you think like that Wei Wei! Actually when I saw you I thought that chick is so stylish and she might not be interested in talking to me..." Oh God, how funny to know that she actually thought the same about me! It's all good now, cheers to our stylish friendship!

Thank you May for always putting up the best make up, the gold turns out really good! Thank you Headie for scaring the snake away (although there was no snake).

Spring Series: Pink

Specially for Ally,

I saw a girl with red lipstick, carrying a red colour Mickey Mouse Longchamp handbag walked pass my "weindow" in a hurry. She was unique and mysterious to me, which reminded me of the song "Aubrey" by Bread:

And Aubrey was her name
A not so very ordinary girl of name
But who's to blame?
For a love that wouldn't bloom
For the hearts that never played in tune
Like a lovely melody that everyone can sing
Take away the words that rhyme, it doesn't mean a thing

Ally studies fashion design, and it makes sense that she has her own unique style. I always wish to have her as my photo shoot model, but I couldn't find a good reason until last Tuesday. A friend of mine who is also called Ali, couldn't be our model for last Friday's Pink Theme photo shoot, so I prayed to God to find me the perfect model. In my heart, it whispered:" Ally, get Ally your neighbour." Alright, I braved myself up and knocked on Ally's door, no one home. So I went back to my working desk and waited for Ally to pass by my window. A few hours later, while I was picking up something on the floor, I heard footsteps, I quickly put my head near the window to see if it was Ally! I saw long brown hair, must be her! I ran upstairs and knocked on her door. Her housemate Nicole opened the door and Ally was standing behind him eating a strawberry yogurt, I said in a loud voice:" I am looking for Ally!"

Thank God she agreed to be my model! Yay!!! But Ally warned me that she is not photogenic. I told her:" Don't worry, I don't like pretty models." And she laughed out so loud!!! Oops did I say something wrong again? Did she think that I thought she is not pretty? "I like it when you said you don't like pretty models!" She laughed.

I realized Ally actually likes to talk and she is a very friendly person. The photos turned out breath taking. I love her style and her genuine expression. I am so glad that I followed what my heart told me -- go get Ally. A million thanks to Tessa for the set up, May for the beautiful make up and Ally for being the perfect model for this photo shoot!
