Jasmine + Paul: The Wedding at Fairfield Boathouse

"Tea for Two"
by Doris Day

Oh, honey

Picture me upon your knee

With tea for two and two for tea
Just me for you and you for me alone

Nobody near us to see us or hear us
No friends or relations on weekend vacations
We won't have it known, dear
That we own a telephone, dear

Day will break and I'll awake
And start to bake a sugar cake
For you to take, for all the boys to see

We will raise a family
A boy for you and a girl for me
Can't you see how happy we will be?

WHO IS SHE?

I love Jasmine, because she is a vintage lover. She’s got her own style and she loves navy theme. She’s got that something that make us can't stop looking at her. Born with a Filipino-Australian background, this girl is not only pretty and smart, but she also paints, dances and cooks great food. I discovered something great about her, she is also gifted in literature. She called her honeymoon “fun-neymoon”, and their wedding guest book was actually an oar that they found in an op shop, so she wrote there “ Please sign our OAR-SOME guest book”. She wrote a hundred notes for Paul telling him what she loves about him, and put them into a jar. Lucky you, Paul :)

WHO IS HE?

This British gentleman was born in Plymouth, UK, where the pirates came from. Both Paul’s father and stepfather served in the navy.I first met Paul and Jasmine at Douglas and Jasmine Pope's wedding drinks. I still remember Paul and Jasmine kissed like there was no one else in the room, obviously they just got together haha. We had a brief chat with this gentleman and we liked him, especially his British accent. To my surprise, Paul sent me a friend request on Facebook the next day which made me felt honoured.

HOW THEY MET?

Ok this is a very interesting story: it was a blind date set by their mutual friend, Douglas on 19th March 2014, at a random pub. It was supposed to be a double date, but Douglas and Jasmine Pope couldn't make it at the last minute. Jasmine was very nervous before the blind date, she actually went home and threw up, which caused her to be late to the blind date. Who would have guess that the blind date became a love at first sight…

HOW HE PROPOSED?

This is a very interesting story too… In October 2014, Paul planned for a romantic proposal in their garden. He took Jasmine into the garden and kneeled down in front of Jasmine who was having hay fever. At that very important moment, the bell door rang, it was the Thai delivery! Oh what a good timing! So Paul quickly ran to the door to get the food, put it in the kitchen and ran to Jasmine again. Jasmine made him repeat the proposal once again and she said yes!

The moment I saw Jasmine's engagement ring, which is a vintage ring with an opal, I couldn't get this beautiful ring out of my mind. Paul certainly has a good taste.

THE WEDDING PREPARATION:

Few months before their wedding day, I went to scout out Fairfield Boathouse, just so that I could get a better picture of the location to plan for the photoshoot. Somehow in my heart I was thinking about Paul and Jasmine when I arrived at the boathouse. To my surprise, there they were! I saw Paul in a maroon colour Polo shirt and Jasmine was sitting beside him with Billy Bob the dog on her lap. Wicked (they like to use the word wicked)!

The couple spent nights folding around 1000 paper boats for their wedding reception deco. Paul would recall that his eyes were closing off due sleepiness but his fingers were in auto mode still folding the paper boats.

Jasmine made jars of sea salt + chilly flakes as a gift for each guest. The jar was wrapped with a blue and white checked fabric and wrapped with a blue and white string, and it was written " Jaz + Paul. Made with love. 28.02.15" I still have the jars sitting on my desk, they are too delicate that I don't want to open them.

THE WEDDING DAY:

I was so looking forward to their wedding. Jasmine did the tradition of something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. The lace of her lovely vintage dress was cut from her mom's wedding dress. Her earrings were borrowed from her mom and the lucky horseshoe was something old from her great grandma. We could see many blues as the wedding theme was nautical. And there were many new things, including a new husband haha!

The yummy coconut frosted rum wedding cake was baked by Jasmine's equally talented sister, Hannah. Hannah also did Jasmine's and the bridesmaids' hair too. Oh I LOVE the vintage curly hair on Jasmine! Paul's mom who is also gifted in handcraft made the beautiful boutonnieres.

The boys went for something different on Paul's bucks night: paintball. There were fresh bruises all over Paul's body on the wedding day. I love it when the boys did the pose from the Madness album cover. It's just wicked!

It was a beautiful warm day, at around 28 degree Celsius. I actually felt sorry because I was feeling sick and nausea. A week before Jasmine and Paul's wedding day, I was back in Malaysia to celebrate Chinese New Year, but I had fever and was diagnosed with vertigo. Vertigo was the worst thing one could ever had. I could hardly walk or eat. I tried to do my best during the photoshoot despite of the dizziness and heavy headache that constantly stopped me from shooting. But I do enjoyed being part of their wicked wedding. I am thankful that everyone at the wedding was so kind to me and cared about me.

Doris Day's "Tea for Two" was played at the couple's first dance. Can I say, it was one of my favourite songs too! This bride, she certainly has got style! Jasmine's grandpa is a funny old man. He shouted this when he heard the song:" That's bloody 40s!" (in a thick Aussie accent) When we were going to the bridge for bridal party photoshoot earlier, I heard grandpa said:" Are you going to the bloody bridge?!" Jasmine's grandma was the flower girl and she looked adorable in her sailor girl dress.

AFTER THE WEDDING:

Few months later Jasmine and Paul popped over to pick up their photos and album. We had an hour of good chat, and took a few Polaroid photos with our funny Spice Girls poses.

As soon as they got home and opened the album, they sent me a photo of their expressions: a treasure that I will never forget.

To this wicked couple, thank you so much for giving us the chance to be part of your nautical themed wedding at the awesome historical boathouse. From your dress to your hair to the bridesmaids' dresses to Paul's socks to the DIY decorations, I just love everything about your wedding! Thank you for seating us at the reception too and I enjoyed eating the fresh salmon. Most of all, thank you for your big hearts!
